A look at Long Beach Island, NJ
Last Updated on January 17, 2020 by Christopher G Mendla
August 2019 – I was looking for some quick takeout for my mom and I . We ordered from the Clam Bar in Beach Haven. I’ve passed by the place for decades but will be going back
A few weeks earlier, my girlfriend and I were waiting to sail on the A.J. Meerwald. We took a quick walk up to the clam bar to get something to drink. All we purchased were 2 ice teas. They treated us as though we were ordering a full dinner. I made a note to stop by and try the place.
The layout inside is simply a U shaped counter that seats about 30 people. plus a few small tables. They are cash only. For more information, see the Harvey Cedars Shellfish Company site.
We called in an order of Clams Casino and two orders of Scallop Melt. The Clams Casino is six topnecks topped with their casino mix, Jersey tomato and bacon. ($10.95)
The Scallop Melt is local sea scallops sautéed with crisp bacon, fresh mushrooms, and melted Swiss cheese. ($12.95).
OK – Everything we ordered had bacon. In addition we had bacon at breakfast. Don’t tell my doc.
The Clam Bar is listed on Google Maps as “Harvey Cedars Shellfish Co.” as they are under common ownership. Parking in the area can be a challenge. During the summer, there is usually a decent wait.
Labor day weekend was their last days of the season.
PRO TIP – If you call an order in, make sure you know which restaurant you are calling, The Clam Bar in Beach Haven or the Harvey Cedars Shellfish Company in Harvey Cedars. Fortunately I got it righ.
